Power of the Peaceful Protest, 2010/11
The Power of the Peaceful Protest is an interdisciplinary project between English, music, and math classes designed to get students thinking about the different ways art can be used to change people’s perceptions. Students will work individually on writing and math projects, and then in groups for music class to create art that informs and persuades a diverse audience, keeping in mind their different levels of understanding and attitudes. In addition, in their music and writing, students will acknowledge and pay homage to artists who have influenced the way their perceptions about life or art.

The Power of the Peaceful Protest
This was a semester-long collaborative project with music teacher Mike Handforth. After reading the literature of protest throughout American history and researching and writing about a social injustice they saw in theri world or community, students wrote poetry and music that they performed at the downtown San Diego venue
