England! May 2011
May 17, 2011
Hi everyone! Well, I've had a very busy few days here! I'm visiting a school called Matthew Moss High School in a town called Rochdale in Northern England. High School here doesn't mean quite the same as in the US -- high school here consists of grades 6-11. Matthew Moss is interested in incorporating projects into their curriculum so I am here to share some of the ways we create, manage and exhibit projects at HTHI. However, it's a little bit more difficult for them to do because especially in the upper grades, there is a lot of pressure for students (or "learners" as they're called here) to pass a horrendous test that lasts for about 4 weeks, all day, every day and which determines if they will go on to a university or to a trade school. Consequently, the teachers are a bit reluctant to incorporate projects for fear that they won't adequately cover material for the test.
Before I got to Rochdale I spent a few wonderful days in London! I went on a cruise down the Thames, ate really spicy Indian food, and took a long walk through Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens. I've posted some pictures below.
